Animals in the plays
This is our beloved Chester who was involved in our plays for years. Now he has retired, Sam the donkey appears in all our plays, while his friends Frodo and Denzil work with visiting school children for workshops and retreat days.
All of our animals rehearse, like the cast, to ensure they are happy and used to the environment around them. We have 600 sheep at Wintershall.
This is George, one of several horses who have appeared in our plays, being ridden by Edward Hutley. George loved the attention of the crowds and particularly in Trafalgar Square. In the picture, he is being assisted by Tyra, one of our volunteers who is a very experienced animal handler and rider.
Kit helps to look after our sheep at Wintershall and he is still in training!
